On Saturday, February 12, 2011 at 6:00 pm in the Plaza de Armas was kicked off the event "Besos against homophobia" convened by the MHOL and participated Student Block - LGBTI. This event has been underway for several years in various public areas of Lima (previous occasions in the Plaza Mayor). Its dynamics is symbolic, peaceful and quiet, since it involves public display of affection from people in the LGBT community.
few minutes later, about 10 soldiers of the assault police began to push and arbitrarily demand that we withdraw from the place, ignoring any attempt at dialogue. Because of our reluctance to see our rights of free passage and freedom of expression are violated, the police began to repress so brutal. They beat us with batons, shields, boots and fists. As we assaulted, the police hurled insults, improperly touched her companions and threw pepper in our faces. In sharp contrast, we held no weapon nosotrxs any: just defended us with our voices and bodies without any protection.
After along the Huallaga and Lampa street, thinking he had stopped violence against nosotrxs, the troops began a systematic persecution: encircled and harassed ciudadanxs small groups (not necessarily LGBTI), we were forced to leave public buildings (including the same municipality), we withdrew from the streets in a violent and private business in view of dozens of people.
All these events lasted an average of two hours. The total number of battered both LGBTI people as people outside the community is undetermined. However, sat eight complaints of abuse of authority by four lesbians, two gay and two bisexual. Six are members of the Bloque ellxs Student - LGBTI. There is photographic and film material that accounts for the facts, the identity of the attackers and the harm caused to victims.
For the foregoing reasons, from the Student Block - LGBTI:
· condemn this flagrant act of homophobic violence orchestrated systematically by the state and the Catholic Church against LGBTI ciudadanxs vegan. This is the first time that the act of "Besos against homophobia" receives unwarranted repression of such dimensions. However, this deplorable act of institutionalized homophobia is not an addition to the clear line of the Peruvian State homophobic.
· regret the suffering and our solidarity with our comrades who were injured during this shameful episode . His suffering and outrage is also ours. Their struggle is also ours.
· demand to take immediate legal action against the police vegan who savagely attacked eight ciudadanxs LGBT concerned and the general public. We also call for an investigation and punish those people and institutions who gave the orders for gruesome attack on our basic rights.
· believe that maintaining silence all political parties about these unfortunate events to date complicit in the situation of homophobia common national political scene. No party has condemned or expressed officially so far, with the exception of well-meaning but still insufficient statements of Mayor Susan Villarán. This silence makes it clear opportunism than they had demonstrated at the time to "debate" equal marriage or gay marriage less than a month.
· thank the Homosexual Movement of Lima (MHOL) that since the beginning of the attacks gave us his moral support and legal.
· invite all LGBTI organizations, to integrate and strengthen the benefit of the LGBTI community who share our outrage and spirit.
Because we should not ask permission to any institution to exercise our basic rights.
